Kyla
Pierik lives with her husband David in a century home on a farm in
the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia.
She grew up on an apple farm that had been in her family for over
a century. Her parents met after her mother left her Cape Breton Island
home to come to the ‘mainland’ to train to become a nurse.
Her father was brought up on his family farm where – unlike
many at the time – new and creative dishes were served on a
daily basis. Kyla’s Grandmother Woodworth was known as a fine
cook and hostess.
As an only child of busy farming parents, cooking and baking was the
adventure that was often taken together as a family. Making homemade
fudge in their first microwave oven or seeing the awe inspiring baked
Alaska emerge from the oven were the adventures of the day. Learning
how to make fancy sandwiches or to crimp the edge of the pie crust
‘just so’ were the cooking lessons learned at home. Having
parents that nurtured her culinary abilities has allowed her to learn
and be creative over time with her cooking and baking.
This cookbook is the realization of a dream for Kyla and she hopes
you enjoy it as much as she has enjoyed preparing it for you. |
